Instructions

  1. Press the Tofu: Remove excess water from tofu by pressing it firmly between paper towels or using a tofu press for at least 15-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare Teriyaki Sauce: Combine soy sauce, sweetener, mirin (if using), minced garlic, and grated ginger in a bowl or blender. Mix well.
  3. Cook Teriyaki Sauce: Pour the sauce mixture into a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Add cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) to thicken the sauce. Stir until thickened and remove from heat.
  4. Pan-Fry the Tofu: Cut pressed tofu into cubes or slices. Heat oil in a pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add tofu pieces and fry until all sides are golden and crispy.
  5. Combine and Serve: Pour the thickened teriyaki sauce over the crispy tofu and toss gently to coat. Serve immediately as a main dish or with rice and vegetables.
