Ingredients

  1. chard - as needed (well washed)
  2. cheese - 1 kilo (can use any preferred type)
  3. ham - 1/4 kilo
  4. guajillo chilies - 2
  5. tomatoes - 5 (well washed)
  6. onion - 1 piece (a piece for the broth)
  7. garlic cloves - 3
  8. salt - to taste (to taste)
  9. oil - as needed (for frying)
  10. water - as needed (for boiling vegetables and blending sauce)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chard: Heat water in a pot and blanch the chard leaves until they are soft but not overcooked. Then drain them to have them ready for rolling.
  2. Prepare the Filling: On each chard leaf, place a slice of ham and a piece of cheese. Fold them into rolls.
  3. Make the Broth: In another pot, cook tomatoes, guajillo chilies, a piece of onion, and garlic cloves in water. Once cooked, blend these ingredients into a smooth sauce.
  4. Cook the Sauce: In a saucepan, heat oil and sauté slices of onion until fragrant. Add the blended sauce, season with salt, and add a little water if needed. Let it simmer until it thickens.
  5. Finish the Dish: Once the sauce is boiling, add the chard rolls into the sauce. Let them cook for a few minutes until the dish is heated through and the flavors meld.
  6. Serve: Serve the chard rolls hot with rice or your choice of side. Enjoy your meal!
