Ingredients

  1. roasted gamtae seaweed - 1 sheet (1 sheet, crushed)
  2. nori seaweed - 1/2 sheet (1/2 sheet, cut into stripes)
  3. rice - 3 bowls (3 bowls, cooked)
  4. roe (myeongranjeot) - 1 piece (30g, for pink rice)
  5. black sesame - to taste (for decoration)
  6. salt - to taste (to taste)
  7. sesame oil - to taste (to taste)
  8. herb stems - to taste (for decoration, optional)
  9. beet powder - a pinch (for coloring pink rice)
  10. sesame oil - 1 teaspoon (1 teaspoon for white rice)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Seaweed: Finely crush the roasted gamtae seaweed in a plastic bag and cut the nori into thin stripes for watermelon skin.
  2. Make Pink Rice: Make a cut on the roe and scrape it out. Combine with 2 bowls of rice and beet powder to create pink rice.
  3. Make White Rice: In 1 bowl of rice, mix in salt and sesame oil to create white rice.
  4. Form Rice Balls: Spread the white rice, place the pink rice ball in the center, and wrap it with the white rice to form a round shape.
  5. Coat with Seaweed: Roll the white rice ball on the crushed gamtae seaweed to create a green rice ball.
  6. Decorate: Attach the nori stripes as watermelon skin and place a thin cucumber slice or herb stem on top as a watermelon stem.
  7. Final Touch: Cut the finished rice ball into pieces and sprinkle black sesame on the pink rice surface to resemble watermelon seeds.
