Instructions

  1. Prepare and stack cake layers: Stack and fill the cake layers with Swiss meringue buttercream. Insert a center wooden dowel and four boba straws for structural support.
  2. Carve and ice the cake: Carve the cake into a lava lamp base shape and ice the entire cake with buttercream.
  3. Cover cake and board with fondant: Cover the cake and cake board with gray fondant for a smooth finish.
  4. Make the lava lamp top: Press Rice Krispie treats into a cup using a shot glass to form the top shape. Coat with a thin layer of royal icing and cover with gray fondant.
  5. Paint cake and toppers: Mix silver luster dust with vodka to create edible silver paint. Paint the cake board, cake, and Rice Krispie toppers.
  6. Make cake pop dough and shape cake pops: Mix cake scraps with Swiss meringue buttercream to form cake pop dough. Shape into ovals and dip in white coating chocolate.
  7. Prepare gelatin jelly layers: Combine sugar, gelatin, water, and lemon extract in a bowl and let gelatin soften for 10 minutes. Heat over a double boiler until gelatin dissolves and mixture is clear.
  8. Color and layer gelatin: Divide gelatin into five heat-safe containers and color each to match desired lava lamp colors.
  9. Pour gelatin layers with cake pops: Pour a small amount of blue gelatin into a mold and refrigerate for 10 minutes to set. Place a cake pop in the center, then pour more blue gelatin and refrigerate again. Repeat layering with other colored gelatin and cake pops until the mold is full.
  10. Seal and assemble: Place the acrylic circle on top of the gelatin layers. Cut around the top and gently cut down the side to release the jelly cake.
  11. Add lighting: Insert waterproof LED lights inside the cake to illuminate the jelly layers and cake pops.
