Ingredients

  1. mussels - 500g (cleaned and beards removed)
  2. water - 500ml (for cooking pasta and broth)
  3. spaghetti - 150g (dry pasta for 2 servings)
  4. onion - 1/2 medium (thinly sliced)
  5. tomato sauce - 1 cup (for the sauce)
  6. pepperoncino - 2-3 pieces (dried chili peppers)
  7. salt - 1/2 tablespoon (for pasta water)
  8. scallions - watch the video to see (chopped, optional garnish)
  9. black pepper - watch the video to see (to season)
  10. olive oil - 4 tablespoons (for seasoning)
  11. minced garlic - 1 tablespoon (for seasoning)
  12. Korean red pepper powder (gochugaru) - 1 tablespoon (for seasoning)
  13. rice wine (cheongju) - 2 tablespoons (for seasoning)
  14. chicken stock cube - 1/2 cube (half cube, for seasoning)

Instructions

  1. Prepare mussels and onion: Clean the mussels thoroughly and remove the beards. Thinly slice the onion.
  2. Cook spaghetti: In a pan, add water and salt, then cook the spaghetti for about 6 minutes.
  3. Add seasoning ingredients: When the pasta is about halfway cooked, add olive oil, minced garlic, Korean red pepper powder, rice wine, and half a chicken stock cube. Stir well while continuing to boil.
  4. Add tomato sauce and pepperoncino: Add the tomato sauce and pepperoncino to the pan, mix well, and season with black pepper.
  5. Finish and serve: Optionally sprinkle chopped scallions on top before serving. Enjoy the spicy and refreshing pasta.
