Ingredients

  1. milk - 500 ml (half a kilo)
  2. Dream custard powder with vanilla flavor - 2 tablespoons (2 spoons)
  3. raisins or nuts - watch the video to see (optional, to add after custard cools)
  4. fresh filo pastry roll - watch the video to see (divided into three pieces)
  5. ghee - watch the video to see (for greasing the tray and pastry)
  6. milk - 240 ml (1 cup, to pour over hot baklava)
  7. honey or syrup - watch the video to see (to pour over hot baklava)

Instructions

  1. Prepare custard: In cold milk, add two tablespoons of Dream vanilla custard powder. Stir well while cold, then put the mixture on the stove and heat until it thickens to a creamy consistency. Remove from heat.
  2. Cool custard: Cover the custard with a plastic bag to prevent skin formation and let it cool.
  3. Prepare filo pastry: Divide a fresh filo pastry roll into three equal pieces. Stack them on top of each other.
  4. Assemble baklava: Take three sheets of filo pastry lengthwise and three sheets widthwise, forming a grid. Place a large spoonful of cooled custard in the middle. Fold the pastry over the custard in the manner shown in the video to form the baklava pieces.
  5. Grease and arrange: Grease a baking tray with ghee. Place the assembled baklava pieces in the tray and grease the top well with ghee.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F). Bake the baklava in the middle rack until it becomes fluffy and golden brown.
  7. Finish and serve: While the baklava is hot, pour one cup of milk over it, then drizzle honey or syrup on top. Serve warm.
