Save my dad’s recipe for char siu chow mein (full recipe in the caption)! My parents finished their kitchen remodel (Part 2/2), and we had to christen their kitchen with a chow mein recipe! Their kitchen was on its last legs, and when their stove finally broke it was time to pull the trigger. Thanks to our friends at Hauslane for helping us get setup with a new range hood (the same one we’ve had in our kitchen for years!) Hauslane is running a huge fall sale, and you can get an even bigger discount with our special discount code. Our product is the UC-PS 18. Go to hauslane.com and use code HLMWL5, or use our special discount link: https://hauslane.com/discount/HLMWL5 — The recipe: Main Ingredients - 1 lb thick chow mein noodles - 2 oz char siu - 2 oz king oyster mushrooms - 2 oz carrot - 2 oz celery - 2 oz beansprouts - 1 oz onion Sauce - 1 tbsp oyster sauce - 1 tbsp light soy sauce - 1 tsp dark soy sauce - 1/2 tsp salt - 1 tsp sugar - 1 tsp sesame oil Steps 1. Start by making the sauce. Combine oyster sauce, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, salt, and sugar. 2. In a wok, boil water and steam the noodles for 10 mins with the lid on. Uncover the wok and transfer the noodles into the same water that was steaming it. Cook for 5 mins, then drain 3. Heat a clean wok on high and when it’s hot enough, add oil. 4. Throw in the noodles, spread them out, cook for 30 secs, then flip and cook other side for 30 secs. 5. Push the noodles to one side of the wok, and add char siu and a dash of oil to the freed up area. Stir-fry without mixing into the noodles for 20 secs. 6. Add the onion, carrots, celery and king oyster mushrooms, stir-fry for 40 secs. 7. When the vegetables are fragrant, move the noodles on top to cover them. 8. Cook like this for another 40 secs. 9. Now pour the sauce over the noodles, then mix and stir-fry everything together for 60 secs. 10. Finally, add beansprouts and sesame oil. Cook for another 2 mins on medium heat and it’s ready to eat.
