Tortellini: a tiny parcel of comfort that lives up to its name. In Italian, tortellini translate to "little cakes" or "little twists," and that’s exactly what they are—delicate bundles of joy. This Italian classic hails from Emilia-Romagna, traditionally filled with rich, decadent ingredients like veal or spinach. Even though you might love eating tortellini, they are not the easiest pasta shape to make! So, if you don’t have the time to make tortellini from scratch, I wanted to see how the store-bought varieties compare to home made. In this challenge, I tested a variety of supermarket options to see which ones truly deliver on flavor, texture, and overall satisfaction. In this taste test, I tried both spinach and veal-filled tortellini all without any butter, cheese, or sauce to interfere with the flavors.
